The Trump administration non-sarcastically shared that on Earth Day — and on that day, and every day, Donald Trump has done the exact opposite.
In just the first six months of his second term, he’s:
✅ Removed the US from the Paris Climate Agreement for the second time
✅ Green-lit logging in national forests
✅ Expanded mining and the use of coal in the U.S.
✅ Rolled back dozens of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations aimed at protecting the environment
✅ Laid off hundreds of employees at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
✅ Removed mentions of climate change from all government websites
✅ And more. Here’s an unfortunately long list!
If that’s “following the science,” someone needs to head back to elementary school!
Speaking of, one of the other programs Trump has cut in his quest to dismantle the Department of Education is the “Green Ribbon” program, which celebrates students and staff who are finding innovative ways to help the environment at school.
The GOOD news? Wisconsin has created its own version, so those efforts can continue regardless!
Kenosha’s Mahone Middle School and West De Pere High School were the first schools honored. Here are a few cool things they’ve done ⤵️
💚 Mahone Middle School built an outdoor classroom that supports mental health, well-being, AND the environment. Click here for more on that.
💚 The school also encourages public transportation, water conservation, and created rain gardens, while modeling environmental responsibility through upcycling projects!
💚 West De Pere High School reduced greenhouse gas emissions by upgrading its facilities and sourcing local produce for school lunches.
💚 They also encourage outdoor physical education to help deepen students’ connection with the Earth and host recycling drives to show students big change can start local!
We may be lacking leadership in Washington, but it’s still going strong in Wisconsin 💪🏾
