Trump’s latest conquest? Bringing back Columbus Day.


Trump continued his quest to “Make America White Again” last weekend by focusing on what really matters — bringing back Columbus Day. (Insert eye roll here.)

🇺🇸 DEEP DIVE: Why Do We Still Celebrate Columbus Day in Any Form?

The president used his preferred method of communication, Truth Social, to declare, “I’m bringing Columbus Day back from the ashes.”

He added, “the Democrats did everything possible to destroy Christopher Columbus, his reputation, and all of the Italians that love him so much.”

FACT CHECK 💡 The federal holiday — celebrated the second Monday in October — was STILL called Columbus Day during Biden’s term, but ALSO “Indigenous Peoples Day.”

That name swap has been a longtime goal of activists who want to shift the focus from commemorating Columbus’ navigation of the Americas to his and his successors’ exploitation of the Indigenous people he encountered there.

Columbus and his men enslaved and brutalized Native Americans — forcing them into labor, shipping them to Spain for sale, and killing many, either on purpose or by exposing them to European diseases.
