Scott Schultz was raised on a central Wisconsin dairy farm. He is a Marine Corps veteran who spent more than 45 years as a reporter and editor covering Wisconsin agriculture and rural issues. He authored the book Rural Routes and Ruts: Roaming the Roads of Rural Life.
