When planning your next trip, it’s common to focus on three main expenses: airfare, hotels, and meals. However, there’s one often sneaky expense travelers overlook: the price of getting to the airport.
That’s why, the next time you fly, it might be a good idea to consider this article before deciding whether to rideshare or drive yourself to the airport.
Travel company Upgraded Points recently compared the average cost of taking an Uber versus parking your own car at America’s 50 busiest airports. Here’s what they found:
Parking is the cheaper option at the majority of airports.
At 36 of the 50 busiest airports in America, you’ll save money by driving yourself. Just how much you’ll save depends on where you’re headed, but two airports were head and shoulders above the rest in terms of savings:
- At New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), you can save $88.94 by parking.
- And at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), you can save $71.88 by parking.
At three popular airports, however, ride sharing is clearly the cheaper choice.
- At San Diego International Airport (SAN), you can save $82.12 by Ubering.
- At Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), you can save $69.12 by Ubering.
- At Logan International Airport (BOS), you can save $60.82 by Ubering.
Parking is the way to go at all three of Wisconsin’s nearest airports.
Although Milwaukee’s Mitchell International was not included in the report, researchers did find parking was the cheaper option at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD), Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW), and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP.)
